The one-year anniversary Tuesday of George Floyd’s death will be marked by events across the country and President Biden meeting with Floyd’s family at the White House.
Floyd died May 25, 2020, while in Minneapolis police custody, resulting in a summer of social justice protests across the country over police brutality. Ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin last month was found guilty of murder in Floyd’s death. Three other fired officers still face trial.
Among the memorial events will be an outdoor festival at the Minneapolis intersection where Floyd died. The event will include food, children’s activities and musical performers according to the Associated Press .
Biden had set an unofficial deadline of the anniversary of Floyd’s death to enact sweeping police reform legislation. However, the measure has stalled in Congress.
Also on Tuesday, the Floyd family will reportedly meet with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Karen Bass, also a California Democrat and a top negotiator in the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. Whether the family will meet with two other top negotiators – Sens. Cory Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, and Tim Scott, a South Carolina Republican, remain uncertain Tuesday morning.
The Oval Office meeting between Biden and Floyd family is private and closed to reporters.

They’re Trying to Shut Us Down
Over the last several months, I’ve lost count of how many times the powers-that-be have tried to shut us down. They’ve sent hackers at us, forcing us to take extreme measures on web security. They sent attorneys after us, but thankfully we’re not easily intimidated by baseless accusations or threats. They’ve even gone so far as to make physical threats. Those can actually be a bit worrisome but Remington has me covered.
For us to continue to deliver the truth that Americans need to read and hear, we ask you, our amazing audience, for financial assistance. We have a Giving Fuel page to help us pay the bills. It’s brand new so don’t be discouraged by the lack of donations there. It’s a funny reality that the fewer the donations that have been made, the less likely people are willing to donate to it. One would think this is counterintuitive, but sometimes people are skeptical because they think that perhaps there’s a reason others haven’t been donating. In our situation, we’re just getting started so please don’t be shy if you have the means to help.
Thank you and God bless!
