Darline Graham, appointed to finish her late brother’s term after Lindsey Graham’s sudden death in July, has been a senator for roughly six weeks. She has no legislative record of consequence.
When asked in the only debate whether Taiwan and the South China Sea constitute national security issues for the United States, she answered with stunning candor: “I’m not that informed on national security… National security is not my thing.”
That is not a gaffe. That is a disqualifier. The United States Senate is not a training ground. Trump’s loyalty to Lindsey Graham is understandable on a personal level. The late senator was a reliable ally on many fronts. But personal loyalty is not a governing philosophy. None of this changes my appreciation of and loyalty to President Trump and the MAGA movement. I just wish he’d made a better choice in this race.
