Cheektowaga, NY – A Buffalo police officer remains in critical condition after a car he was chasing hit a pole that landed on the officer’s vehicle, hitting the officer and leaving him unconscious. #BREAKING : A Buffalo police officer has been rushed to ECMC after a utility pole came down on a police car. A BPD captain says the officer was trying to stop a vehicle, and the suspect’s vehicle hit the pole. This appears to have happened near Mafalda and Harlem in Cheektowaga. — Chris Horvatits (@ChrisHorvatits4) June 3, 2021 Buffalo Police were responding to a call around 1 pm on Thursday of a white vehicle with four suspects inside with at least one of them armed. Officer Jonathan Negron tried to stop the vehicle and that’s when the chase began. The vehicle went off of the road into Mount Calvary Cemetery. The vehicle then exited the cemetery and drove onto Harlem Road, striking a pole.

The pole crashed into Officer Negron’s driver’s side window, knocking him unconscious. Other officers who were responding to the incident transported Officer Negron to ECMC. He is being treated in ECMC’s Trauma Intensive Care Unit with severe head trauma. Officer Negron has a fiancée and a young child.
The incident is currently under investigation. #New : BPD was in pursuit of a car with four suspects who allegedly had a gun. It crossed into Cheektowaga lines. As the suspects left Mount Calvary Cemetery they hit a light pole which fell onto the officers vehicle.
